DEV>A more detailed look at Santa Claus

Recommended Posts

Fun fact: The tradition of leaving milk and cookie out for Santa and his reindeers isn’t an American invention. Already French children left out carrots for Père Noël’s donkey, Gui (Mistletoe) ; in Latin America children leave grass for the Three Wise Men on January the 6th so that they can feed their mounts (either horses either camels ; in Spain and in Spanish-influenced cultures the Three Wise Men are much more important during the Christmas season and act as the gift-givers). And of course there is also the Scandinavian habit of leaving out a bowl of porridge for the farm gnome on Christmas Eve (be it a “nisse” in Denmark and Norway, or a “tomte” in Sweden).

In Australia, children don’t leave out milk for Santa. They leave out beer.

Yep, that’s Australia.
