FFM Day 15!

Today was a Nasty Ass Challenge, and a collaboration to boot! I got together with 5 fantastic writers to bring you this piece. We all picked characters from Clue (Cluedo) to try and solve the mystery of the murder of Mr. Black! The rest of the pieces are below, and you can read them in any order, save for Mr. Black's, which is last!!

NASTY ASS CHALLENGE: N.A. NOIR

  CHALLENGE: "With my brains and your looks, we could go places."

Most Fictional Investigators don't play well with others, but this time there’s been a crime so heinous that it’s going to take not one but TWO hardened crime-fighters to get the job done. Unless y'know, they're just meeting for for their weekly knitting club or something. Technically no crime is required.

Your especially nasty challenge today is to write a story in collaboration with another writer (or several), that's told from the point of view of your respective Detective characters, be they old or new, hardened Police veteran, private eye, or amateur sleuth. 

In addition to the challenge above you must also use the following elements in your story:

  ELEMENT ONE: "The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter."

You must include at least one instance of the Film Noir Inner Monologue Trope. But, as it is a trope, you are allowed to play with it to your hearts content.

  ELEMENT TWO: “That’s life. Whichever way you turn, fate sticks out a foot to trip you.”

Your story should include at least one red herring, featuring a false clue or piece of information that leads your readers towards an erroneous conclusion.

  ELEMENT THREE: "It was the bottom of the barrel, and I was scraping it."

And last but not least, your story cannot take place in a typical film noir setting. What is typical you might ask? Damned if we know, but we're certainly looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with!
