This ain't autobiographical in any way, shape or form, but I did actually have this dream--which is why I'm (slowly, haltingly) writing this story. It's hard to argue against things that make no sense.

Questions for any indulgent readers (plz read these questions AFTER you read the thing!):
1. As a "real dream", I'm really not sure how well the imagery here resonates with anyone but me. Did you notice or ascribe any meaning to the impossible layout of the house? And does the description of the impossibly clear water even make sense visually? (In my dreams, too-clear water with no reflection on the surface is a death symbol. I don't expect anyone to really share this interpretation, but I do want it to be clear that the water is a symbol of something, and not just a meteorological inconvenience.)
2. Any guesses about the relationship of the person in the box to the narrator? I want it to be clear that he's an actual person the narrator knew and not (unlike everything else in this piece) just another symbol.
3. Is this too weird/abstract for a prologue? Does it make you curious about what's gonna happen in the first chapter?
4. As always, let me know if any phrasing feels awkward or confusing.
