This is for A Game Of Genres Week 1! The Genres competing with each other are Space Opera and Urban Fantasy, so I chose the latter! 

I like taking mythology and magical creatures and spinning them into a way that is still recognizable but also notably different and nontraditional. In the past I have made nymphs that are always trees, sirens that pull men out of water, and humans who become vampires by drawing blood via murder (and not being bitten). This time, I wrote about Will O' Wisps, creatures of floating fire who have been thought to lead people astray. Stars always seemed similar to them to me, only much farther away. I wondered what would happen if stars were commonly seen as Will O' Wisps, and had the magical guidance they have been fabled to have. 

This isn't my favorite Urban Fantasy that I have written, but I like the tone in this one. I've been meaning to do a more "letter-esque" story for some time now and this contest allowed me to do just that. :)
