DEV>Planetary Exodus - Dune Inspired

Since watching the first images from the new Dune adaptation from Denis Villeneuve, I was just a bit underwhelmed by what seems to be -at a first glance at least- a very standard, "safe" approach to how the Dune universe looks like. I'm on the side of thinking that the portrayal of the Dune universe should always have some feel of "strangeness", with things mixed up a bit sometimes, using both familiar and strange elements in unexpected places.

Cinematographically speaking, probably it will be a very nice looking film. Blade Runner 2049 was too. But it's world also felt a lot sleeker and cleaner than the original. Wich I think didn't improve anything. I guess  the contemporary "zeitgeist" on art design has something to do with it -in wich the use of digital tools everywhere tend to impose a minimalist, sharp, clean, but ultimately cold and textureless look to everything.

Let's hope I'm wrong and that those images do not represent the whole look of the whole film. But even if that's not the case I know it can be a very good film regardless. Let's hope.
