An exciting winter morning at Grand Canyon!
Most of the time Dawns are frigid, often dreary.  
One might legitimately ask themselves why get out of a warm bed 30 minutes before sunrise, to stand knee-deep in snow when, in all probably, little will occur?
But, sometimes magic happens, often for only a few dazzling moments.
The sun rises above the horizon and there is a break in the clouds and…
The canyon receives intense, focused light, perhaps only for a minute or two, before the ever-rising sun is dulled by clouds.
Colors can vary.
It is a supreme moment at Grand Canyon.

This image was taken from Mather Pt., Grand Canyon’s most visited viewpoint.
Indeed, Mather Pt. is the first view most visitors have of the  canyon.
And it is an exceptional viewpoint.
Massive views can be had up and down the canyon.
In winter, though the crowds may be smaller, it can be quite icy.
(fortunately, there there are sturdy guardrails surrounding the point)
But, to witness such a spectacle of light…the cold, the snow, the ice, the probability of only a gray Grand Canyon dawn, become meaningless.
