-Burn it All the Same


The janaza is the funeral prayer in Islam. Isha is the last prayer of the five daily prayers, fajr is the first. So basically "The funeral will be in the middle of the night but, don't worry, no one actually expects you to be there". When performing salah (the five daily prayers), it ends with the one praying looking to the right and saying "asalamu alaikum" (peace be upon you, the common greeting in Islam) and then looking to the left and saying it. Ameen is the Arabic word for Amen.

I have long wanted to write a piece influence by Islam while not actually being about Islam. There's lots of poems about Islam and Muslims, about being Muslim, about Muslim cultures. But I wanted to show a thought process influenced by Islam. I wanted to show how Islam can influence the way someone expresses themselves.
