This story took far too long. But, it is very fondly dedicated to the incredibly kind and patient DC-26 who sent me the prompt over two years ago. Her story, which is hella good, is here: www.deviantart.com/dc-26/art/M…

We used the “Take 5” prompt, which solicits a story of 1000 words, by following these instructions:

Step 1: Make a list of your five favorite books. They don't have to be in any particular order, but try to avoid books from the same series if possible.

Step 2: Take the antagonist from the first book, the protagonist from the second, the opening sentence from the third, the setting from the fourth, and the genre from the fifth, and use them to write a story.

This was the hardest challenge I've ever done. But by far, it's also the most rewarding for all of the times it didn't work out.

A Little Princess– antagonist: the horrible Miss Minchin

Nightlife– protagonists: The Leandros Brothers and Robin Goodfellow

The Outsiders – When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house..."

Rooms – setting: a house on Cannon Beach

I couldn't remember if my pick for fifth book was The Devil at Archangel or something from The Dresden Files so I compromised – genre: romance/fantasy involving a wizard named Harry Dresden and his pervy spirit of intellect, Bob (who is trapped in his own skull)

This was supposed to be 1,000 words, buuuuttt...it was originally nearly 2,800 and now weighs in at a considerably slimmer 1,500 exactly.
